Join Nevada County’s Poet Laureate, Karen Terrey, in her new monthly event that invites creatives who are interested in prose, poetry and reading for all ages.

This event is free and we can’t wait for you to join us on the second Thursday of each month, featuring poetry, prose, and singer-songwriters.

For this Thursday, we are featuring the dynamic Chris Olander from Nevada City, who is a performer and poet!
About Chris:
Chris Olander, Nevada County Poet Laureate Ameritus, is a poet and bio-educator, and has taught with California Poets in the Schools since 1984. He blends performance techniques with spoken word to create what he calls an ‘Action Art Poetry – musical images phrasing to dramatize relative experiences – a poetry arising from oral and bardic traditions.’ Chris Olander’s debut book of poems is River Light. Kirk Lumpkin says, “What has always impressed me about Chris Olander’s poetry is how present, how kinetically alive the energies of nature are in it and of how the words dance in the breath and sinew of it.” His third book of poems is titled Who We Are (2026) by Cold River Press. He was Nevada County Poet Laureate 2017-2019.
We love throwing a good Oktoberfest party, but this year we decided it was time to expand the party, partner with some other local businesses and create Truckee’s first ever Oktoberfest: a community-wide, weekend long Oktoberfest party in downtown Truckee! We’re doing this Truckee-style, which means that in addition to drinking locally made Oktoberfest lager out of 1 liter steins and eating irresponsible amounts of German food, we’ve got hikes and yoga, coffee and wine, an artisan vendor fair, and more. And we have a Digital Passport with all the activities and you can earn points and prizes for participating in as many activities as you can fit in!

Alpine Avalanche Rescue Foundation (AARF) works to promote snow safety, avalanche awareness and education to the Tahoe Basin community and professionals in the field. As well as supporting avalanche rescue dog teams at Alpine Meadows Resort.
Our fundraiser is to aid in scholarships for avalanche education courses, professional search and rescue training, and avalanche rescue dog training. We have awarded over $25,000 of scholarship funds within the last 5 years and hope with your help we can continue to promote education and avalanche awareness!
